Sky’s amputation done..home soon YAY

Welcome from down under! i am so lucky and blessed to have sky in my life and she has undergone her surgery after breaking her leg playing with a puppy.Should be back home soon and i am little aprehensive about what to do to make her comfortable but knowing sky she will know exactly what to do and leave me in her wake! luckily im an at home mum of two gentle caring boys (is there such a thing i hear!)who attend kindy)so we will be getting lots of quiet time.I am very pleased with my decision.as was the vet ..she is such a healthy happy dog and there was no cancer found in her bloods or in any other xrays! and luckily it was her bad dysplacia leg that has gone so a blessing in disguise! So here goes into a realistic but fantastic future !

  1. glad sky is doing well, welcome to the sight. i’d love to see some pictures, sounds like ms. sky is a wonderful girl… i’m guessing down under means australia (here in east tennessee, it means down the hill in the back yard, into the woods…). keep us in the loop with her progress!!!

  2. Sorry about the accident, but I must say you have a great attitude. You’re quite right – Sky will absolutely know exactly what to do! Lots of quiet time and rest will help with recovery. All the best!

  3. Sorry to hear that your baby had to have her leg amputated from an accident. What kind of dog is she? Big, small… which leg did she have amputated? Front, back?

Be sure to have lots of comfy areas for her to lie around in the house, like doggie beds and/or comforters, etc. You should think about getting a sling to help her get around for the first week or so after surgery. If you don’t have one, you can use a towel or something to help support her when she gets up and hops around. After she recovers, a harness is a great help.

The first 2 weeks while recovering from surgery and being doped up on pain meds, is when she’ll need help learning how to balance herself on 3 legs.

Looking forward to hearing all about her progress (what’s her name??) and seeing some pictures too!

  4. I’m certain your girl will do wonderful :o) Xander lost his leg after being struck by a car – there’s nothing they can’t do really… just amazing!

  5. Ouch Sky – that must have hurt really bad. But don’t worry, losing a leg won’t slow you down a bit. I am just over two weeks post surgery and am doing just about everything I was before. I mastered stairs pretty quick but “jumping” up on the furniture is still a little tricky.

The sling helped my pawrents a lot in the first week, especially since I wasn’t supposed to be going up and down the stairs 🙂

Sending you hugs and kisses to help with a speedy recovery.

  6. etgayle, your description of “down under” made me lol. Sky, take it easy for awhile, but then be like any other dog and hop and jump and run and roll. Can we see your picture? Opie’s mom
